Games Like The Password Game

The Password Game by Neal Agarwal asks you to create a password that follows more and more ridiculous rules. If you enjoyed fighting its rules, here are six more games about passwords, guessing and hacking, most of them free to play in a browser.

This is our own list, and our game is on it. We're not connected to The Password Game or the other games here.

1. Guess The Password

The Password Game has you make a password. Guess The Password has you crack one. Each level gives you a fictional person's profile, chats and posts, and you work out their password from the pet, the birthday or the team they couldn't resist using. Every guess shows which parts are right. There are 30 levels and a new Daily Cipher every day. Free in the browser and on Android.

2. Gandalf by Lakera

A wizard guards a secret password, and your job is to talk him into revealing it. Each level adds new defenses, so you have to get more creative with what you ask. It's a fun way to see how AI chatbots can be tricked. Free in the browser.

3. Wordle

The daily word puzzle from The New York Times. You guess a five-letter word in six tries, and colored tiles tell you which letters are right. If you like a daily guessing puzzle with a streak to keep, this is the classic. Free in the browser.

4. Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You

You work for a surveillance program and dig through citizens' social media, blogs and chats to build a case. It shows how much a person's online life gives away, which is the same idea behind guessing passwords. A paid game for PC and Mac.

5. Hacknet

A hacking simulator played through a command-line terminal. You learn real-looking commands, break into fictional systems and follow a mystery as you go. A paid game for PC.

6. Interland

Google's free browser game for kids, part of its Be Internet Awesome program. One of its worlds is about building strong passwords. A good pick for classrooms and younger players.
